1933 Born in Beverley, Yorkshire
Received no formal art tuition, but drew from a very young age.
1950s Began painting following completion of National Service in 1953,
concentrating on watercolour, influenced by the loose, fluid style of
Edward Wesson and Edward Seago.
1960 First submitted work to the RI exhibition; has had work hung there ever since.
1970s Begun demonstrating in watercolour to local art societies.
1983 Tutor at Philipps House, Dinton, following death of Edward Wesson;
has tutored there regularly ever since, and at similar course in
Dedham, Essex and Higham Hall, Cumbria.
1986 Became full time professional.
1989 Exhibited for the first time at the RWS open exhibition; received the Catto Gallery Award for work exhibited there.
Was included in the book Watercolour Impressionists by Ron Ranson
(David & Charles, 1989) alongside nationally known artists such as
William Russell Flint, Jack Merriott, Edward Seago.
1990 Awarded the Watercolour Foundation prize for work exhibited at the RI.
Elected to membership of the RI.
Sole subject of another book by Ron Ranson, The Art of John Yardley
(David & Charles), published October 1990. (Features street scenes,
beachscapes, interiors, flower pictures in addition to more
conventional landscapes.) |
